DIARY OF A FESTIVAL In the Spring of 1986, Doug Davis received a call back from Chick Corea's agent. Chick had recorded one of Doug's original compositions a year earlier, and there was hope that Chick might come to Bakersfield for a solo concert. The agent's answer, "Sorry, Chick's not interested in the solo concert, but wonders if you would be interested in a concert by his new band?" The end result was the first concert ever by the Chick Corea Electrik Band with John Pattituci and Dave Weckl. VOLUNTEERS No one knows the exact number of volunteers that it takes to "make this festival happen," but as the organizer of the teams of volunteers, I know on a personal level how much they give . . .
