SOULAJAR
February 6th of 2007 marked the release of Soulajar’s debut, self-produced 5 Song E.P. It was the band’s first studio recording showcasing 5 original cuts in a wide variety of styles that, in a nutshell, pretty well explain what the group is
all about.

Just a few weeks after the release, the recording was growing popular with local fans and music lovers alike as the band’s CD Release Concert at the Spotlight Theatre had completely sold-out. In June of 2006, the E.P was submitted to a nationwide music competition held by the Starbucks / HearMusic Corporation. Soulajar’s single, “Sweet Air,” was selected for the final round in the Southern California Division, which featured thousands of bands that spanned from San Diego to Fresno. On July 14th, 2007 the band received a very exciting phone call upon which they were notified
they had officially won the “2007 Starbucks SoCal Music Award”. This award led to a media frenzy as Soulajar was featured on multiple news networks, live radio interviews, local magazines, the front cover of The Bakersfield Californian, XM Radio, jambands.com Top 250, the KTLA Morning Show, and ultimately an opening slot for a sold out concert with ‘Columbia Records’ recording artist Mat Kearney at The House of Blues in Hollywood, CA. At this point, it had become very clear that after just a simple release of only 5 songs, Soulajar had something very special to offer and had developed into a Bakersfield household name (with aggressive expanding nationwide exposure).

Four years later, Soulajar has finished its’ debut full-length album which is set for release on April 5th, 2011. The band is gearing to tour the US in order to support the record, which will be released on vinyl, CD, and digital download.

Soulajar is a soulful funk-and-groove group from Bakersfield, California.

However, the music of Soulajar defies simple categorization. Its' players are humble young artists with diverse influences and a shared love of stretching musical boundaries. Their sound is a refreshing blend of innovative compositions; fusing elements of rootsy soul and tasty melodic pop to form an undeniably unique flavor of song craft.

The band always leaves room for improvisation, which keeps fans returning almost compulsively by knowing they will always hear something new and progressive. Lyrically, Soulajar spreads positive energy with an articulate and spiritually driven voice that even the most dissimilar crowd can relate to.

Diversely, Soulajar's music bridges the gap between radio friendly pop rock and party-pleasing festival jam bands.
